Lost Season 5 Episode 1 - Because You Left

We begin series 5 with the familiar face of Dr Marvin Candle. We appear to be on
the island during the Dharma era. He draws the short straw and has to wake up to
give his infant an early morning feed. Dr Candle then begins to film a new
Dharma Orientation video. Just As he begins, someone runs in and announces that
there is trouble down at the Orchid station.
The station is mid way through
construction. A construction worker tells Dr Candle that one of the men tried to
drill through the wall but the drill had melted and the man had collapsed
clutching his head. Dr Candle tells the construction worker that behind the wall
is an endless energy supply, and if harnessed correctly, could enable them to
manipulate space and time. As he leaves we see one of the construction men look
over, it’s none other than Daniel Faraday!

Back in the present day, Sayid takes Hurley to the safe house. He tells Sayid
that he worked for Ben Linus for two years and that Hurley should never believe
a word he says. As they are about to enter the building, Sayid notices that
someone is inside. A man jumps out and begins to fight with Sayid.

Hurley picks up the man’s gun as he watches Sayid throw him over the balcony to
his death. Sayid runs into the flat to see if anyone else is inside. Hurley
leans over the balcony to see people rushing towards the body, they look up and
see Hurley holding a gun. Someone takes a picture of him and the gun on their
camera phone.

Inside we see Sayid is now fighting with another man in the kitchen. The
dishwasher door falls open and the man falls down on the open door and is
impaled on a pertruding knife. Suddenly Sayid is hit by a poison dart and begins
to lose consciousness. Hurley drags him from the flat declaring that they should
never have left the island.

Elsewhere, Jack and Ben remove Locke’s body from the funeral parlour....

...they then head to a hotel where Jack cleans up in preparation to check Hurley
out of the Santa Rosa Mental institution. They look at the TV and see a news
report claiming that Hurley is wanted for murder. Ben says that they will have
to adopt a change of plan.

Kate is preparing breakfast for Aaron when she hears a knock at the door. She is
confronted by two lawyers with a court order to take a blood sample from her and
Aaron to determine their relationship. She tells them to come back with the
Sherriff and slams the door in their faces. She runs upstairs and begins to pack
clothes and cash, she tells Aaron they are going on vacation and they make a
hasty departure.

Sun is checking in for her flight to LA. The person at the check-in desk asks
her to wait while she gets a supervisor. Sun is locked in an interview room and
begins to bang on the door when she hears a familiar voice behind her. It is
Charles Widmore, the man she spoke to just hours before. He tells her that she
was disrespectful for approaching him in public about the island but wants to
know what their mutual interests are. Sun tells him “To kill Benjamin Linus”.

Back on the island, the brilliant white flash that engulfed the island fades.
Locke notices that Richard Alpert and the others are no longer there. Juliette
and Sawyer see that the freighter is no longer visible. A panicked Bernard
announces that their camp has disappeared. Faraday and the people on the raft
return to shore, Charlotte tells him that everything vanished. He says “Of
course it did” and that he thinks he knows what is happening. He asks to go to a
man made landmark on the island, Juliette suggests the Swan hatch, or the
remains of the Swan hatch.

Locke finds that the old plane wreckage that fell and killed Boone is back up in
the tree. He climbs up to have a look when is shot in the leg. He falls to
ground and is approached by Ethan Rom. Locke tells Ethan that Ben appointed him
leader of the others. Ethan takes aim and is about to kill Locke when there is
another white flash and Ethan vanishes. Sawyer and Juliet’s group also
experience the flash and see a large crater where the Swan hatch once was.
Faraday tells them that they are moving through time and makes the analogy that
the island being like a record that keeps jumping.

Locke hears another person approaching, it is Richard Alpert. He tells Locke
that he sent him to come and help. Richard removes the bullet from Locke’s leg
and tells him that they don’t have long and next time they meet he won’t
remember Locke and that he must give him this…..he reaches into his pocket and
gives Locke a compass. Richard continues that the people on the helicopter made
it off the island and are doing fine but that to save the island they have to
return and he has to die. Another flash occurs.

Meanwhile at the hatch, after the flash the crater disappears. Juliet digs at
the dirt below to reveal the Swan hatch in tact. Sawyer then starts banging on
the hatch door as this would mean that Desmond is still down there pressing the
button [I presume this makes sense to Lost fans…]. Faraday tells him that can’t
change what has happened and that Desmond won’t answer. After much yelling
Sawyer heads back to the beach with the rest of the group. Faraday tells Juliet
that he has to get his back pack.

Faraday bangs on the hatch door and is confronted by Desmond in a yellow
protective suit. Desmond does not know who he is and points a gun at Faraday. He
tells Desmond that he special and that the rules don’t apply to him but also
that the people who were left behind are in danger, he instructs Desmond to go
back to Oxford where they met and find his mother, but before he can say her
name there is another flash and he is gone.
Desmond wakes up next to Penny
on their boat. He tells her he was back on the island. Penny tells him that he
has been off the island for three years now and is safe. Desmond is adamant that
this was not a dream but a memory. He runs above deck and releases the anchor.
Penny asks where they are going. Desmond replies, “Oxford”.

Lost: Series 5 Episode 3 - Jughead

Desmond runs through a Filipino market shouting "Efren Salonga!" He bursts into
a back room where a bunch of men are huddled over a card game. Finally, one of
the men responds to his call. The man is a doctor, and he rushes back to
Desmond’s boat where Penny is in labour.

She pushes and gives birth to a baby boy.
Two years later and they are on the boat sailing to England.
Desmond explains to their son Charlie that this is where his Mummy and Daddy
fell in love. Penny adds that’s where he also broke his Mummy’s heart. She makes
Desmond promise that he will never go back to the island.

On the island Faraday, Charlotte, Miles and the remaining survivors are waiting
at the creek. Miles notices a trip wire near the water....

Juliet and Sawyer have two men in US army uniforms held at gunpoint. The men
have the names Jones and Cunningham on their uniforms.

One begins to speak to the other in a different language. Juliet reveals that it
is Latin and that is spoken by the Others. After all, it is the language of the
enlightened.

Desmond is at Cambridge University asking about the whereabouts of Daniel
Faraday. The University staff tell him that there is no record of him. He walks
to where Faraday’s old lab was and sees that it is sealed off with a fumigation
sign on the door.

He enters to find everything covered in dust sheets. He picks up a picture on
the floor of Faraday with a mystery woman. A man asks him what he is doing. When
Desmond says that he is looking for Faraday but can’t find any information about
him, the man replies: “Well, can you blame them? After what he did to that poor
girl…”

The woman seems confused. Desmond adds that Daniel Faraday sent him, and she
tells him to come in. The woman leads him to a room and introduces him to
Theresa.

She is the woman in the picture and is unconscious on a
hospital bed with monitors all around her. The woman is her sister and tells him
that Theresa is away right now but sometimes wakes up and thinks that she is
three years old or playing with their dead father. Desmond seems overwhelmed and
starts to leave.
Her sister says Faraday abandoned her and ran away to the
States. She starts to praise Charles Widmore, who funded Faraday’s research for
taking care her sister while she been in this condition.

Back on the island Juliet asks Cunningham in Latin to take them to their camp,
she tells them they are not the enemy. Cunningham is about to reveal the
location of the Others’ camp when Jones swiftly breaks his neck and runs into
the jungle.

Desmond bursts into Charles Widmore’s office and demands to know where Daniel
Faraday’s mother is. Charles asks how his daughter is, but Desmond does not
answer. Charles gives him the address of Faraday’s mother in LA. He tells him
that she is a private person and will not appreciate the visit. He then tells
Desmond not to get involved and take Penny back to wherever they have been
hiding for the last three years.

Back on the boat Desmond tells Penny that Faraday’s mother is dead. She asks why
he is lying. He says that she is in LA but he made a mistake and doesn’t want to
get involved. Penny knows that Desmond will never forget and says that they are
coming with him to LA.

Richard tells Jones to put the gun down, Jones resists and Richard says once
more – put the gun down, “Widmore.” Locke looks surprised and asks the man if he
is Charles Widmore. The man tells him he is and asks what of it. Locke simply
says "nice to meet you."

Locke sits with Richard. He gives him the infamous compass and tells him that he
is their leader. Richard tells him that they have a very selective recruitment
process that starts at a young age, Locke asks what year it is, Alpert replies
1954. Locke tells him that he will be born May 30, 1956 in Tustin, California,
and Richard should visit him.
Locke enquires how to get off the island, and
Richard tells him that is privileged information. He enquires again as the light
starts to get brighter and another flash is imminent.

Before he can answer, the flash grows brighter and he is sitting in the
middle of an empty field. Faraday, Charlotte and Miles return but Charlotte
collapses to the floor with blood pouring from her nose.

Lost Season 5 | Episode 2 - The Lie

The Oceanic 6 are on Penny’s boat after they have been rescued. Jack says that
they have to get their story straight. Hurley tells them that they should tell
the truth but everyone eventually agrees that lying will keep those they left
behind safe. Hurley asks Sayid to back him up, Sayid refuses. Hurley tells him
that someday he will need his help and he won’t get it.

Flash forward to Hurley driving an unconscious Sayid. He begins driving
erratically and bumps up the kerb. Suddenly he sees a police car flash him
behind and pulls over.

The police officer approaches the car and we see it is Ana Lucia. She tells
Hurley that he needs to pull himself together and, most importantly, not get
himself arrested. As she leaves she tells him that Libby says hi. Hurley looks
behind and there is no one there.

On the island tempers begin to flare as hunger sets in. Charlotte complains of a
headache and earlier suffered a nose bleed. Daniel’s face indicates that he
knows what is causing this.

Suddenly, a shower of flaming arrows rains down on the camp. One of the group,
Neil (aka ‘Frogurt’) is hit and burns to death. Everyone frantically runs into
the jungle.

Sawyer and Juliet find themselves alone.

Ben and Jack are at the hotel. Ben tells Jack to go home and pack a suitcase, he
tells him to bring everything he wants to keep from his old life as he won’t be
coming back. Ben takes Locke’s body to a local butcher where a woman called Jill
(who knows all about the island) agrees to look after it.

Hurley decides to drive to his parent’s house. He gets his dad to help him bring
Sayid inside. There is a knock at the door, it’s the police. When they leave his
father asks them why they think he killed three people. Hurley tells him that it
was Sayid and he did it to protect them. Hurley’s father tells him Sayid needs a
doctor: Hurley knows exactly who to call.

Still on the run, Kate pulls over into a service station and receives a phone
call. She sounds glad to hear the voice and says she will meet them shortly. She
arrives at the hotel and Sun answers the door. Kate tells her that someone knows
they are lying and explains about the lawyers wanting DNA samples. Sun thinks
that they just want Aaron and that she should take care of them, indidcating
murder. Kate is shocked by this. Sun tells her that she will have to make a
tough decision just like Kate did on the freighter when she left Jin onboard to
die. Kate becomes emotional and apologises.

Hurley’s mum returns home and questions why an unconscious Sayid is on the
couch. Hurley’s dad puts him in the back of his car and drives him to an
underground car park where he meets Jack. Jack tells him that Sayid needs to go
to hospital. Jack drives Sayid away and rings Ben to tell him the news. At the
hospital Jack gives Sayid an adrenaline shot to revive him. It works and as he
regains consciousness Jack tells him he is safe.

Hurley is in the kitchen making some food when he hears a voice from behind. He
turns around to see Ben Linus. In a panic Hurley throws his apple pie at him but
it misses. Ben tries to calm Hurley and says he’s come to take him back to the
island and he will never have to lie again. Remembering what Sayid had said,
Hurley runs outside to the police car that has been staking the house out. They
arrest him.

On the island Juliet and Sawyer are hiding form from their attackers when Juliet
is grabbed by three men wearing Army fatigues. One of them speaks with an
English accent and wants to know what they are doing on their island. When
neither of them answer he commands them to chop Juliet’s other hand off too.
When they question what he means by the other hand, he says the 1st first had is
not negotiable and commands the other men to chop it off,.

Before they can, a knife flies out of the jungle and kills one of the men.
Sawyer and Juliet tackle the remaining men. A figure walks from out the jungle:
it’s Locke.
